Nurturing a Growth Mindset in Paediatric Occupational Therapy

A growth mindset—the belief that abilities can be developed through effort, learning, and persistence—is a powerful foundation for children’s development. In paediatric occupational therapy, fostering this mindset can enhance a child’s engagement, resilience, and motivation as they navigate challenges in motor skills, sensory processing, social participation, and beyond. This blog explores how OTs can intentionally support growth mindset thinking during therapy sessions, in goal setting, and in collaboration with families and educators. We’ll share practical strategies, language tips, and activity ideas to help children embrace effort, celebrate progress, and build confidence in their abilities—both in and outside of therapy.
