At The Therapy Network, we know that strong teams don’t just happen—they’re built intentionally through connection, collaboration, and a little bit of fun along the way. That’s why we regularly come together for events like Teams Day, where the focus shifts from the day-to-day and lands squarely on what makes our team thrive: trust, creativity, and shared purpose.
This particular Teams Day included one of our favourite activities—the Marshmallow and Spaghetti Tower Challenge. It might sound simple (or delicious!), but behind the laughter and friendly competition lies a deeper purpose.
Why Team Building Matters
Team building is about more than games and icebreakers. It helps us:
- Strengthen relationships across roles and locations
- Enhance communication and problem-solving under pressure
- Spark creativity in unexpected ways
- Foster a sense of belonging and shared vision
When we create space to connect outside of our usual roles, we build trust—and trust is at the core of every great team.
The Marshmallow Challenge: What It Teaches Us
The rules are simple: build the tallest free-standing tower using only spaghetti, string, tape, and one marshmallow (which must go on top!).
The outcomes, however, are far more powerful:
- It highlights different thinking styles—some jump straight in, others plan first. Both are valuable.
- It encourages collaboration under time constraints, showing us how we work as a group.
- It gives permission to fail, learn, and try again, which is exactly what we encourage in our therapy approach too.
What We Hope to Achieve
At The Therapy Network, our clients rely on us to work together seamlessly—to communicate, collaborate, and bring creativity to our therapy sessions. By investing in our team, we’re investing in the quality of support we provide every day.
Team-building days remind us that our strength lies not just in our individual skills, but in how we support one another. Whether we’re building towers, delivering therapy, or sharing ideas over morning tea, we’re always growing stronger—together.
There’s nothing like a little spaghetti and a marshmallow to bring a team together!
